World Youth Junior Track and Field opening ceremonies

The opening ceremonies were pretty exciting.  It was a sell out crowd that came to see the atletes enter from 170 countries.  The largest group was from the USA with 100 people.  Canada has a good group of about 70 people.  Some of the counrties looked very poorly represented with just one athlete.  I was suprised to see such countries as Iraq and China. I was expecting to see Cuba.  They have many great athletes and sports is usally a time they get out of the communist country.

Stephen Harper the Priminster had a good speech.  The IAAF Junior Champsion is a big deal for Atlantic Canada.  This will be a world class event and everyone who is from New Brunswick and the rest of Canada should be proud of.  The stadium looks amazing the perfect place to hold this event. It is something you would see somewhere else enternationally like in Germany, Poland or USA.

The only thing they were missing was maybe some fireworks.  Will there be any past Canadian track stars such as Dovan Bailey or Burny Surren or other.  Think they would be a great insirpation to young people competiting possible future olypmians.

The weather held up long enough didn't get in the way of the opening.  It did rain quite a bit just after it concluded.  Everything seemed to be well rehursed.Don't think that the weather would have dampened everyone's excitement.

I enjoyed the fiddlers, bag pipes.  It was cool how they represented the Irish coming to Canada.  With a couple in green dancing with each other on stilts.  I think the games will be exciting and can't wait to see what happens at the closing ceremonies.

Huh? All he said - and I quote - was "I declare the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championship games open."

He said it twice, for some reason.
